Informal Testing
Informal testing is a software testing approach that involves ad-hoc, unstructured, and often undocumented testing activities performed without formal test plans, cases, or documentation. It relies on the tester's intuition, experience, and exploratory techniques to identify defects, typically during development or in early project stages. This method is flexible and quick, focusing on immediate feedback rather than rigorous process adherence.
Developers should use informal testing for rapid validation of code changes, debugging, or when time and resources are limited, such as in agile or iterative development cycles. It is particularly useful for exploratory testing to uncover unexpected issues, during prototyping to assess functionality quickly, or in small-scale projects where formal testing overhead is unnecessary. However, it should complement, not replace, formal testing for critical or large-scale systems.
