CIMD2
CIMD2 (Computer Interface to Message Distribution 2) is a text-based protocol developed by Nokia for sending and receiving SMS messages between applications and SMSCs (Short Message Service Centers). It is primarily used for SMS gateway communication, enabling applications to send bulk SMS, receive delivery reports, and handle two-way messaging. The protocol is known for its simplicity and efficiency in high-volume SMS environments.
Developers should learn CIMD2 when building or integrating SMS gateway systems, especially in legacy or Nokia-based telecom infrastructures where it is commonly supported. It is useful for scenarios requiring reliable bulk SMS delivery, such as marketing campaigns, notifications, and authentication services, due to its straightforward command structure and widespread adoption in certain regions. However, it is less common than SMPP in modern global systems.
