VLAN tagging is a networking technique that adds a VLAN identifier (tag) to Ethernet frames to logically segment a physical network into multiple virtual LANs (VLANs). It enables network administrators to isolate traffic, improve security, and manage bandwidth more efficiently by grouping devices based on function, department, or application rather than physical location. This is commonly implemented using the IEEE 802.1Q standard, which inserts a 4-byte tag into the Ethernet header.
